Getting A Massage Is Something That Shouldn’t Be Stressful

Featured in:

Massages have been around for centuries as a form of relaxation and eliminating muscle tension. If you are interested in learning about massage therapy as a topic, you have come to the right article. The Internet can be a hard place to find the information that’s perfect for you. That’s why this article has compiled tips for both those receiving massages as well as those giving them.

If recurring muscular pain is an issue, do some research about trigger points, or consult with a massage therapist. Trigger points are tiny knots which happen when muscles become knotted. These trigger points may send pain and swelling to other areas in the body. Reading up on trigger points will allow you to properly recognize them and treat them when you encounter them.

When giving a massage, make sure that you use the right amount of pressure. It is a delicate balance between using too much pressure and not enough. Take some time to practice. Ask the person you are giving the massage to if you are using too much or too little. Their feedback should dictate the amount of pressure you use.

If you experience stress or other negative emotions, you should try massaging specific points of your body. Target your nerve endings to get your body to relax. Sensitive nerve endings are located along your spine, the top of your head and in different parts of your face. You should try gently tapping on the top of your head, your forehead, cheeks and chin before taking a deep breath.

Massage can be therapeutic as well as a great technique for relaxation. A wide variety of conditions can be treated with massage. Among them are tension in the facial muscles and the muscles of the body, headaches caused by tension, excessive stress and respiratory problems including asthma. Concentrate on deep relaxation during your massage to get the most out of your session.

When you are giving a massage, try not to use the same stroke over and over. This can make the whole experience mundane, as you want to incorporate as much change during the session as possible. Alter your technique, the stroke and how hard you press on the back, neck and thighs.

Put your thinking on hold. One of the most difficult, yet essential elements of getting the most out of a massage is relaxing your mental state. Try to start doing some deep breathing while the therapist is setting up. Imagine that, with every inhale, you gather all the nagging and stressful thoughts in your head. On the exhale, envision blowing all of these thoughts out into space, gone forever. Keep repeating until you feel yourself relaxing.

You won’t become a great masseuse overnight. Begin with asking those that trust you if you can give them massages and allow them to give you feedback. Next, you can move on to your significant other.

After receiving a great deep tissue massage, remember to drink a lot of water. Deep tissue massages release toxins from the muscles, and water helps to clear those toxins from your body. By drinking several glasses, you will keep your body hydrated and avoid feeling lethargic after your massage.

There is no real dress code when you decide to go out and get a massage. If you are concerned about dressing appropriate, speak with the spa or your message therapist beforehand. By addressing clothing concerns, you can ensure that you won’t feel embarrassed or uncomfortable during your massage. If there is an area you also don’t want massaged like your behind, tell the therapist before starting.

Don’t swear off using a massage therapist of the opposite sex. You may initially be weird about it, but get over it! Men may have the height and strength you need to work out the kinks from a really bad back, and women may have the relaxed touch you need to de-stress. Be open to whoever may best fit your current need.

When your massage therapist tells you to drink water, listen! It is easy to become dehydrated quickly after a massage because toxins and fluids are released from your body. Drinking lots of water will help to replenish the fluids you are losing. If you choose to drink caffeine filled sodas or alcohol instead, you will suffer the consequences.

Arrive on time to your massage appointment. True, massages are meant to be relaxing. But don’t impose on the massage therapist’s time or that of the next person’s appointment. Most therapists are booked all day long and cannot afford to keep you for a few additional minutes and make the next patient wait.

Do not forget to tip your massage therapist. Many therapists work mostly for tips and only receive a small percentage of the price you pay for the massage. They will appreciate a good tip, and it will be remembered the next time you return. A fair tip is typically fifteen to twenty percent.

Give your therapist a tip after your massage. Tips are strongly advised in this business. It’s a good idea to leave a 15% tip like you would at a restaurant. Your therapist will appreciate the tip, and will remember you for future visits. You will also benefit from this if you go back to the same therapist. Rewarding their talent will help to ensure you get excellent service on your return visit.

As you can see, giving or getting a massage is never a simple or straightforward task. Anything from tipping your masseuse or how to work out muscle tension can become a question. This article has talked about some of the most common ideas that you should keep in mind when it comes to massage therapy. Apply all that you have learned for optimum success.
